Employee Development Services

Employee Development Services consist of comprehensive, individualized services that help participants develop or reestablish work skills, attitudes, personal characteristics, work behaviors, and functional capacities to achieve positive employment results. Participants are age 16 and older. The majority of persons served meet the eligibility criteria for county, state, or federal funding and program costs are paid by one or more of these entities. Private pay is also an option.

Participants receive services directly from our staff members or indirectly through natural supports. We provide Employee Development Services at community job sites, within organized vocational training settings, or through one-on-one counseling sessions. This may involve one or more of the following services:

Work Adjustment Training (WAT)

These are performed on the Functional Industries work floor or at our community based crews. WAT’s are designed to identify an individual’s employment objectives, supports and services needed to meet the objectives, and to evaluate works skills and “soft” skills. Soft skills include punctuality, appropriate dress for the work place, and how to interact appropriately with coworkers and supervisors. The length of a WAT is determined by the individual and their team. Participants are paid a piece rate for work performed.

Employability Assessments

These are temporary job placements in community based settings that assess the appropriateness of work environment and evaluate job readiness. Sites are tailored to meet the individual’s employment desires and strengths. Assessments are coordinated with businesses to provide experience in a work environment while completing specific tasks. Functional Industries works with the individual to develop the skills necessary to complete job tasks. Our staff are on-site to evaluate their level of independence along with their work skills and social skills. Assessments can be completed at one or several different community sites. The number of sites and length spent there are determined by the individual and their team. Upon completion of the assessment, the individual and the team are given a report that outlines strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations. Individuals are paid minimum wage by Functional Industries while participating in situational assessments.

Other Services

Other services may be developed and tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual. These include assisting with career advancement and potential increases, helping retain employment, assisting with benefits planning, and help with job seeking skills.
